Today’s society has grown fond of technology due to the convenience it brings to life. Lifestyle has adapted around it in terms of incorporating technology on a daily basis. Let’s admit it, it will be utterly difficult to live without technology.
However, technology is not merely on tangible devices or machines. It had already penetrated deeper into the world of cyberspace. One of the major technological advancements that the cyber world had been developing is the further development of artificial intelligence.
Artificial intelligence or also known by its acronym AI; it is one of the main factors of today’s technology that is gaining greater heights due to its capacity to make life easier. AI is also a significant aspect when it comes to the various marketing strategies of businesses in our time today.
In the World Wide Web, the use of sophisticated technology had been maximized. The use of the algorithm is now more complex than when it started. Search Engine Optimization is being used globally for over a decade when it comes to digital marketing and is incorporating AI to its fullest capacity.
With the brief introduction with the relevance of artificial intelligence and search engine optimization in our society, let us take a closer look at the background of these two digital marketing arms.
Search Engine Optimization
SEO is one of the most commonly used digital marketing strategies when it comes to cyber marketing. Search engine optimization is the process by which the online visibility of your website or webpage is affected. This is mostly used for marketing purposes because it improves the ranking of your website on search results and in turn could lead to more website clicks and visits.
The use of AI in SEO is enhancing the digital world of marketing. Searching for keywords can now be adjusted to suit searches well; it can now collect data such as location, previous searches, and other activities done over the web. One of the most useful and popular search engines, Google, uses a machine-learning type of artificial intelligence.
Websites like Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines have significantly impacted and helped our lives as a whole. Artificial intelligence and SEO is one of the most significant connections that our modern day technology could offer, mostly contributing to various marketing and advertising strategies.
Knowing the backgrounds that AI collects and SEO utilizes only show that the two indeed create a powerful approach to digital marketing. Over the years, there had been hundreds, if not thousands, of devices and machines, now have smart capabilities.
Search engines are not alienating itself for sure in taking advantage of Artificial Intelligence use. AI will make websites collect information useful for business algorithms. Although it can create some privacy issues for those who use the internet, however, there are workarounds for these kinds of information to be collected. All in all, it is surely an effective digital marketing arm.
What is Artificial Intelligence?
Some also know AI as machine intelligence that is generated by technology in machines, in contrast to natural intelligence, which is shown by animals and humans. However, the primary function of artificial intelligence is to mimic the cognitive function of a human, rather than that of an animal.
Because of this, AI is mostly known for its ability to “solve problems” and “learn.” Some significant advantages of AI are that it can help make certain tasks easier, same as most products of technology. The disadvantages, however, may include the market price of the use of AI, which could even result in people heavily relying on AI which could result in ignorance and laziness.
AI as shown in Mainstream/Pop Culture
AI has been shown and interpreted in various ways through popular culture via films, novels, and video games, most of these being under the science fiction genre.
Artificial intelligence has become a subgenre of science fiction. In these sci-fi based movies, AI is mostly interpreted as advanced robotic machines that possess human-like intelligence. In fact, AI has been interpreted as either good or bad in all kinds of scenarios. But is this really the case?
Types of Artificial Intelligence
AI hasn’t literally reached that kind of sci-fi world domination heights yet. However, artificial intelligence’s development is still an ongoing process, which means it continues to evolve as time passes by. Artificial intelligence is very versatile; In fact, four major kinds of AI is known to be used today. Here are the four types of artificial intelligence:
Type I AI: Reactive Machines
This is the most basic type of artificial intelligence because they cannot formulate memories and use past situations and experiences to influence their decisions. The chess grandmaster beating machine
Deep Blue, the chess-playing computer developed by IBM, is the best example of this type of AI. Deep Blue has beaten Kasparov with just one move on a match in 1997. This chess-playing computer knows the chess pieces on the board and their respective moves. It can comprehend every possibility that might occur during the game, but it doesn’t decide on the steps based on the past.
The intelligence demonstrated was how computer perceives the world directly and only responds to what it is supposed to do. Machines that are programmed with type! AI only has one task. Although it seems amazing, this kind of AI has a limited range of intelligence and very mechanical due to the limitations it was programmed to do.
Type II AI: Limited Memory
This type of AI is capable of looking into the past to be able to move along. One example of a machine that uses this is a self-driving car. These cars can observe the surrounding movements, speed, and direction. This kind of action requires the vehicles to utilize its monitoring senses over time.
The sensors for these types of cars also involves traffic lights, lane markings, and other essential elements in driving. The information gathered, however, is only temporary. The collected data is not stored in a car’s collective experiences, in contrast to that of a human driver’s understanding which is learning from their mistakes or experiences when driving.
Type III AI: Theory of Mind
The “theory of mind” is a theory from psychology which is the understanding that people, objects, and creatures can have emotions that affect their behavior. This kind of AI represents an advanced class of technology where it can represent the world and people.
A machine working on Type III AI would be able to identify people’s behaviors and emotions and can interact in return. This type of AI has come into reality in the person of Sophia. Although in the 90s, a robot made by a researcher at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was already developed and programmed to possess this kind of AI. The robot’s name is Kismet. It can mimic human emotions and at the same time recognize it.
A robot that can do more than just talking in response to a living being is just the first step. Further development of the 3rd type of AI could be used in many ways for our society, mostly for caregiving roles and other heavy tasks.
Type IV AI: Self-Awareness
The fourth and final type of artificial intelligence is the most advanced type, due to it having a consciousness. Scientists have yet to build this type of AI, but most have already hypothetically suggested that this is the next step of advancement. AI that is self-aware is considered as an extension of the previous type. This type of AI could mostly be seen in various interpretations of films, games, and other fiction-based stories.
Other examples of AI that is more commonly seen in our everyday lives include/could be found in:
- Video Games
